Fredric D. Gordon, MD is a board certified Gastroenterologist, Medical Director of Liver Transplantation, and Director of Hepatology at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington, Massachusetts. In addition, he is Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Tufts Medical School and Instructor in Medicine at the Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts.

Dr. Gordon received his undergraduate degree from Boston University and his medical degree from the Boston University School of Medicine. He completed his postgraduate training in Medicine at the New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston, where he was chosen Chief Resident. He performed his Gastroenterology fellowship at Deaconess Hospital in Boston and his fellowship in Transplant Hepatology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Dr. Gordon has published 130 articles, abstracts and reviews regarding liver transplantation and tertiary treatment of hepatic disease. He serves as a reviewer for a number of prestigious journals including JAMA, the New England Journal of Medicine, and the American Journal of Gastroenterology. His areas of research interest include liver transplantation, living donor adult liver transplantation, Hepatitis C, portal hypertension, and the Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt (TIPS). In addition to his active clinical practice and academic appointments, Dr. Gordon is a frequently invited lecturer and presenter both nationally and internationally. He is a member of the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease, the American Society of Transplantation, and the International Liver Transplantation Society among others.

Dr. Hugo E. Vargas is presently a Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine at Mayo Clinic Scottsdale. He is a graduate of Hahnemann University from where he went on to serve a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. After completing his residency he specialized in Gastroenterology and Hepatology under Dr. Jorge Rakela at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center where he served on the faculty for three years. Dr. Vargas has recently moved to the Mayo Clinic in Arizona where he has a busy practice in liver disease management and transplantation medicine.

Dr. Vargas’ research interests include the treatment and diagnosis of recurrent hepatitis C after liver transplantation and the management of complications of liver disease including variocele bleeding, ascites, and hepatic encephalopathy.
