ModeratorDeborah L. Toppmeyer, MD Dr. Deborah Toppmeyer was appointed Director of the Breast Oncology Program and the Cancer Risk Assessment and Genetic Counseling Program of The Cancer Institute of New Jersey and Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in 1998. Dr. Toppmeyer received her B.A. from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1981 and her M.D. from Albany Medical College in 1985. In 1988 she completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where she was also a participant in the Physician Investigator Fellowship Training Program from 1988 to 1990. She was a Clinical Fellow in Medicine at Harvard Medical School and had a Fellowship in Medical Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in 1990. Dr. Toppmeyer was a Special Fellow in the Breast Evaluation Center at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute from 1992 to 1993. She also had a Summer Fellowship in the Program in Clinical Effectiveness, a joint program of Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Public Health in 1993. Dr. Toppmeyer was an Instructor in Medicine in the Division Of Clinical Pharmacology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute beginning in 1992 and an Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School beginning in 1994. Dr. Toppmeyer has a particular interest phase I clinical trials of new anti-cancer agents, acquired chemotherapeutic drug resistance in breast cancer and genetic susceptibility for breast and ovarian cancer. |

FacultyAngela DeMichele, MD, MSCE Dr. DeMichele is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology at the University of Pennsylvania and Senior Scholar in the Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics. She is currently Co-Director of the Breast Cancer Program of the Abramson Cancer Center and Associate Director of Clinical/Translational Research Training in the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program. Dr. DeMichele earned a B.S. in Biochemistry from Brown University, an M.D. from Washington University School of Medicine (as a Four Schools Physician/Scientist Scholar) and a Masters Degree in Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Pennsylvania. She received her clinical training in Internal Medicine and Hematology/Oncology at the University of Pennsylvania, and joined the faculty in 2000 as a breast cancer oncologist and molecular epidemiologist whose research focuses on identifying markers of outcome, response to therapy and development of targeted therapeutics. She is currently the PI of numerous clinical trials and epidemiologic studies, including national co-PI of the I-SPY Trial, a multicenter study examining molecular and MRI imaging response profiles of patients receiving neoadjuvant therapy for locally-advanced breast and PI of an NCI-funded R01 examining pharmacogenomic and cytokine predictors of response to chemotherapy in E2190, an Intergroup/Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group trial. She directs Penn’s Breast Cancer Survivorship Program, a multidisciplinary clinical research program at the Abramson Cancer Center, where she and her colleagues are performing studies of bone loss, ovarian dysfunction, hot flashes, lymphedema, depression/distress and physical activity in breast cancer survivors. She is a past recipient of a Young Investigator Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology, a Clinical Research Training Grant from the American Cancer Society and a Patient-Oriented Career Development Award from the NIH. Dr. DeMichele has served on the American Board of Internal Medicine Oncology Subspecialty Board, the Editorial Board of the Journal of Clinical Oncology and is currently Chair of the Medical Advisory Board of Expedition Inspiration. |

Clifford A. Hudis, MD
Chief, Breast Cancer Medicine Service Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center New York, NY Dr. Clifford Hudis is Chief of the Breast Cancer Medicine Service and Attending Physician at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City where he is also a Professor of Medicine at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University. He is co-leader of the Breast Disease Management Team at MSKCC, co-Chair of the Breast Committee of the Cancer and Leukemia Group B (CALGB), immediate past-Chair of the Information Technology Committee of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), past-President of the New York Metropolitan Breast Cancer Group and Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Dr. Hudis received his B.A. from Lehigh University and his M.D. from the Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1983 following the completion of a six-year combined B.A. and M.D. program. From 1983 through 1987 he trained in Internal Medicine at the Medical College of Pennsylvania and served as Chief Medical Resident. His hematology/oncology training was completed at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in 1991 and since then he has been a member of the Breast Cancer Medicine Service at Memorial Hospital where he has conducted a large number of clinical trials. His research interests include chemotherapy development, hormone therapy, novel targeted therapeutics, and supportive care. A particular focus has been the integration of newer agents into the treatment plan for patients with early stage disease. His current research focuses on exploration of several signal transduction pathways with clinical applications. In addition to his practice and clinical research, Dr. Hudis has served in a number of other capacities at ASCO and as a member of the editorial boards of several journals.
