Prostate cancer is one of the most common types of cancer among men. There will be an estimated 219,000 new cases and approximately 27,000 deaths from this disease in the United States in 2008. On March 14, 2009, ArcMesa Educators, a fully accredited provider of continuing medical education (CME), will sponsor its 2nd Annual Interdisciplinary Prostate Cancer Congress (IPCC) at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. This full-day CME initiative will build on last year's success by delivering a program specifically addressing the differences that currently exist between urologist's, radiation oncologist's, and medical oncologist's approaches to treating prostate cancer. The urgency for this CME initiative is apparent by the elimination of a dedicated prostate cancer meeting by the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) in favor of one broadly focused on genitourinary disease management.
Leonard Gomella, MD and Daniel Petrylak, MD will return as co-chairs for this program. In addition, Roy Berger, MD, E. David Crawford, MD, Robert Dreicer, MD, Howard Sandler, MD, Oliver Sartor, MD, will serve as faculty members for this educational initiative. These world-renowned thought leaders have been brought together to foster consensus concerning the optimal management of prostate cancer from the vantage point of interdisciplinary care teams. Among several topics of vital interest to these groups of clinicians, the IPCC will address prostate cancer prevention, targeted focal therapies for localized prostate cancer, hormonal therapies, radiation therapies, osteoclast inhibition therapy for hormone-refractory patients and other emerging multi-modal therapies for the treatment of prostate cancer . The IPCC will conclude with a set of interactive case-based presentations designed to highlight a multidisciplinary approach for the management of prostate cancer with the overall goal of improving patient outcomes.
The primary audience for this educational program includes practicing urologists, radiation oncologists, medical oncologists and surgical oncologists since these caregivers comprise the majority of specialists who diagnose and treat patients with prostate cancer.
ArcMesa Educators will designate this full day educational activity for a maximum of 7 AMA PRA Category 1 creditsTM.
