Jon Hanifin, MD Jon Hanifin, MD

Prof. Hanifin obtained his MD degree from the University of Wisconsin Medical School and received specialty training in dermatology from the University of California Medical Center (where he also served an NIH research fellowship in hematology/immunology). His responsibilities include academic clinical practice, clinical and laboratory research, and academic education. His clinical practice in the Dept of Dermatology is focused upon atopic dermatitis and other eczemas, as well as general dermatology.

He is an international lecturer and recognized expert in the research and treatment of atopic dermatitis, and has directed many symposia in his area. He is a valued researcher, respected for his investigations into the clinical, biological and epidemiological aspects of atopic diseases, as well as other immunologic and inflammatory conditions.

Dr. Hanifin has had a long affiliation with patient advocacy groups, serving the National Psoriasis Foundation for 15 years on the Medical Advisory Board and the Board of Trustees. He helped to found the National Eczema Association for Science & Education, is past-president (1989-90), and continues to serve on the Board of Directors.

He has published more than 222 peer-reviewed articles and has contributed chapters to many textbooks.

Dr. Hanifin is active in the American Academy of Dermatology and served on the Board of Directors from 1998-2002. He is past president of the Oregon Dermatological Society and former vice president and board member of the Society for Investigative Dermatology. He is a member of the American Academy of Asthma, Allergy & Immunology; American Association for the Advancement of Science; American Dermatological Association; and American Medical Association. He is an honorary member of the Japanese Society for Investigative Dermatology and the Japanese Dermatology Association, and a member of Alpha Omega Alpha honorary medical fraternity.

Dr. Mark Boguniewicz is Professor in the Division of Allergy-Immunology, Department of Pediatrics at National Jewish Medical and Research Center and the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in Pediatrics at Children's Hospital of Michigan and Fellowship in Allergy-Immunology and Rheumatology at Children's Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston. He is Board Certified in Pediatrics and Allergy-Immunology. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI), past Chair of the Dermatologic and Ocular Diseases Interest Section of the AAAAI and past Chair of the Eczema committee. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI) and past vice-president of the Colorado Allergy and Asthma Society. He is associate editor, Yearbook of Allergy, Asthma and Clinical Immunology. He recently served on the Joint Taskforce of the AAAAI and ACAAI on Topical Calcineurin Inhibitors and was co-chair of the treatment section of the European Academy of Allergology and Clinical Immunology/AAAAI/PRACTALL Consensus Group. His research focuses on immunopathogenesis as well as new treatments for atopic dermatitis and he is an Investigator of the Atopic Dermatitis Vaccinia Network. He has presented his research at many national and international meetings and published over 200 peer-reviewed articles, reviews, book chapters and abstracts. He is the recipient of the 2002 National Jewish Medical and Research Center Faculty Clinician of the Year Award and the 2006 Richard S. Farr Memorial Lectureship at the AAAAI annual meeting.

Adelaide A. Hebert, MD, is a Professor in the departments of Dermatology and Pediatrics at the University of Texas–Houston Medical School. She is also Associate Professor in the Division of Craniofacial Growth and Development, Pediatric Dentistry, at the University of Texas–Houston Health Science Center Dental Branch.

Dr. Hebert earned her medical degree at the Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. She completed a fellowship in pediatric dermatology at Northwestern University in Chicago, as well as an internship in internal medicine and a residency in dermatology, both at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

Dr. Hebert’s clinical research experience is extensive, with studies on a number of dermatologic conditions including acne, eczema, psoriasis, and skin and skin structure infections.

A prolific author, Dr. Hebert has written numerous journal articles, abstracts, book chapters, and letters to the editor. Her journal articles have been published in Archives of Dermatology, Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, Dermatologic Therapy, Pediatric Dermatology, and British Journal of Dermatology, among others. She has served on the editorial boards of Pediatric Dermatology and Skin & Allergy News.

Dr. Hebert has served on the boards of directors of the Women’s Dermatological Society and the Society for Pediatric Dermatology. She has been elected to the presidency of the Society for Pediatric Dermatology for the 2006 – 2007 term. She is a member of numerous professional societies, including American Medical Association, American Academy of Dermatology, Society for Pediatric Dermatology, and The American Dermatologic Association. She is a founding member of the International Hyperhidrosis Society, and has served on its Board of Directors from since 2001. She served as Vice-Chairman of the Department of Dermatology for nine years. Among the many awards and honors she has received are the Dean’s Excellence Award from the University of Texas Health Science Center and listings in The Best Doctors in America.


Jonathan Spergel, MD, PhD Jonathan Spergel, MD, PhD

Dr. Spergel is Chief of the Allergy Section, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He received his medical and graduate education at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and completed his pediatric residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital. His clinical and post-graduate research training in Allergy and Immunology were completed at Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA. Dr. Spergel is Board Certified in Pediatrics and Allergy and Immunology.

Dr. Spergel is the principal investigator for multiple studies in the fields of asthma, atopic dermatitis and food allergies. Some of his notable research findings include tolerance of peanut allergy, the link between atopic dermatitis and asthma and the role of food allergy in eosinophilic esophagitis. He is an invited speaker at local, national and international meetings in the field of allergy and pediatrics. He is the chair of the Atopic Dermatitis Committee of the American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology and serves on national and international expert panels on the treatment and diagnosis of atopic dermatitis. He has authored or co-authored over 35 papers or book chapter in the field of asthma, food allergy and atopic dermatitis.
