Release date: January 1, 2008
Available for credit through: January 1, 2009
Estimated time to complete activity: 1.5 hrs.
Program Description:
Myocardial ischemia secondary to acute restrictions in coronary artery blood flow leads to acute coronary syndromes (ACS). Dual antiplatelet therapy with aspirin and clopidogrel is the standard of care for patients with ACS. However, resistance to these agents is associated with adverse clinical events, and is of great concern to clinicians. This educational program will review clinical data pertinent to the current state of antiplatelet therapy for the management of patients with ACS. This will include a discussion of the prevalence of aspirin and clopidogrel resistance. Our esteemed faculty will also highlight the current and emerging treatment options for the management of antiplatelet-refractory patients with ACS. Upon completion of this activity, physicians will be equipped with the necessary knowledge to diagnose and treat their patients with ACS who are resistant to dual antiplatelet therapy.
This archived educational activity, a CME-sponsored web cast, was originally presented as a live activity on December 8, 2007.
Accreditation:

Educational Objectives:
• Compare and contrast the classes of antiplatelet therapy, agents in each class, and their role in the treatment of patients with ACS
• Analyze the prevalence of aspirin and clopidogrel resistance, current knowledge of the etiology, and laboratory tests to determine resistance
• Interpret the results of clinical trials of antiplatelet agents in development
Target Audience:
This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of Clinical Cardiologists, Interventional Cardiologists and Cardiovascular Surgeons.
Activity Evaluation:
Evaluation by questionnaire will address content, presentation, possible bias, and future educational needs.
